EAT PALM BEACH | DIPLOMAT

I had the chance to swing down to the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, FL this week to check out their massive renovation and new F&B program. All I can say is “WOW.”

First off, the resort looks gorgeous. Coming through the large glass door entry we were greeted by a lobby with soaring ceilings, palm trees and a mix of eclectic and relaxing lounge vignettes. The vibe is casual but upscale, inviting and enchanting.

Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and intracoastal, the resort features stunning views of the water and beach access for guests. This is a destination that is perfect for those visiting the area or locals needing a staycation that feels like paradise.

You are immediately keyed in that the food scene is going to take center stage with Diplomat Prime to your left, Counter Point at a 45 degree angle, The Hotel Bar just ahead and Monkitail on the right.

We began with a tour of the venues across the walkway at Diplomat Landing which are also open to locals and accessible by boat. Portico is an outdoor beer and wine garden featuring light Italian bites. The vibe is cool and relaxed with a vintage VW bus, outdoor games and bistro string lighting. Bristol Burgers is just next door offering a large bar area, burgers, shakes and drinks.

Overseen by Chef Geoffrey Zakarian, Counter Point kicks off the day for guests with grab-and-go coffee and baked goods. Their sister restaurant Point Royal offers up breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We visited Point Royal for lunch and enjoyed a delicious spread starting with the Roasted Beet Salad and sharing the French Omelette with smoked salmon, goat cheese and shaved artichoke and the Butter Poached Lobster Roll. Executive Chef Jorge Negron dropped by to say hello and was super sweet on top of being very talented.

Everything was amazing. The beet salad was bright and fresh, the omelette was creamy and decadent and the lobster roll was flavorful and overflowing with lobster meat. I’m already looking forward to going back for dinner to see the expanded menu.

For those wanting to dine by the water, Playa offers a stunning view of the ocean with fresh bites like tacos, burgers and fresh made juice cocktails. Candy and Cones just by the pool gives guests an array of sweet treats and ice creams to choose from with a full toppings bar. The Hotel Bar bridges the gap from the lobby to the pool with a pass-through bar that can be enjoyed from inside or outside depending on the weather and attire.

Diplomat Prime is the property’s upscale steakhouse that looks straight out of Chicago in the 1950’s with its sexy, boutique feel. Diners are greeted by a gorgeous bar, mood lighting and sultry tunes. The menu features aged meats, fresh seafood and craft cocktails served in a white linen setting.

Monkitail (pronounced like “Monkey Tail”) has become a major hotspot with its Vegas/New York-style dining room, sushi bar and discreet, backroom karaoke bar. Executive Chef Michael Schulson serves up innovative Japanese fare in his modern version of the izakaya. We are definitely looking forward to a return visit to experience the Chef’s Tasting Menu.

A huge thank you to Melinda for showing us around the property and much love to my guest of honor, Marilyn of @littlemariii for enjoying the afternoon with me.

If you haven’t been to the Diplomat I recommend a visit – for the day or the weekend!
